Content

This section will have a variety of content. It’ll contain links to video work, Power Point presentations, blog style narratives, etc... It will always be a work in progress, content will be added when created. I’m a cyclist, so when I’m on the bike my mind frees up and sometimes thoughts drive me to create different forms of communications on topics. The intent is for anyone wanting the material can download it, reformat it if needed, and use it any way they choose. If additional material or tools are needed, just ask me and I’ll email or post.

Project Management Full Course

Full Prj Mgt Course.png

Projects deliver value, people deliver projects, and project managers facilitate the process of bringing ideas to life. Developing skills and experience to raise the level of complexity a project manager can successfully deliver begins with building knowledge. This program will start the development of a strong foundation. Projects come in many forms, some with extreme complexity, and others delivered by smaller teams. So, project managers need to experience projects managed in a centralized manner with more predictive outcomes and decentralized adaptive projects that require the highest degree of flexibility.

Foundational Strategic Management Tools

Strategic management covers a lot of areas, in this video I’m going to hit on some tools that anyone at any level can use. They’re not complicated in design and using them over many iterations and years you’ll find they’re instrumental in how you move anything forward. I’ll only show you the tools, talk about their base value, and some ways to use them.

Career Path PPT 1.png

A Project to Strategy Mgt. Career Path

Career paths are never a straight linear line, but they can be progressive. This Presentation is my go-to material in discussing career paths for those interested in project management. As all careers can stop at any point, not every person is looking for the same level of fulfillment from a career, and not one is better than the other. This just shows some options, supported by levels of experience and growth in knowledge.

Project Success

How We Define Project Success

Job postings for project managers, and hiring managers ask the wrong question regarding project success. The most common requirements are on time and within budget. Schedules and budgets need to be managed throughout the project lifecycle, but they do not measure success.

Intro to Proj Mgt

Introduction to Project Management

This Power Point deck covers a lot of basics in project management and is intended for a one or two-hour presentation, but many of the topics can be a full twenty-hour course on their own. I use this material in general discussions on project management, it helps to pique interest in those new to the discipline, and for leaders that are new to managing a team that includes project managers.

Intro to Strategy Mgt

Introduction to Strategy Management

This Power Point deck covers some basics in strategy management and is intended for a one or two hour presentation, but as we all know strategy management is a much more complicated topic. Undergraduate and graduate programs that are geared towards business management and organizational development will have a few courses going deep into the topics presented.

Nonprofit Strategy Deck 1.png

Nonprofits & Strategy Management

Nonprofits have some unique challenges, but like all organizations they still manage change. The deck is the supporting slides for the content on the nonprofit page, there may be a few additional slides in the deck.

Agile

Agile.png

Agile is not only for developing applications with a consistent release of value-added capabilities, but also a way of developing organizations, products, and services. Nothing starts with Agile, those team structures, tools, and methodologies come into play once there is a minimum viable product already in existence, think of Agile as continuous improvement. Through Agile small incremental and pragmatic iterations of value are created, an owner of a team, a product or service will prioritize, and a project lead will implement. The attached deck is what I’ve used in presenting Agile to undergraduates, but it’s not the deck that matters, it’s the conversation that goes with it.

Standardization-Innovation.png

Standardization Kills Innovation

Let’s not kill innovation within project management by demanding standardization of templates, tools, processes, and methodologies. Encouraging project managers to take past experiences and modify the tools in any toolchest, and to put their own spin on them, will make us better and make them better project managers. It shouldn’t be a free for all, but let’s encourage innovation and drive capabilities forward.
